Survivor is the original reality adventure show and I've watched just about every season, but a lot of people I know feel it's losing steam. The unexpected, who knows what could happen, seat-of-their-pants nature of the early seasons has given way to plot lines that have become way too predictable and contestants too self-interested in their post-show perceptions to produce any real, honest drama. What was once a "unique social experiment," has become anything but.
Survivor contestants have very little to lose. Several weeks of their time, that's about it, and they're home again. While many may say that the producers of Tontine have gone too far with the all-or-nothing nature of the show, no one can dispute that the real and best drama always happens in the emotional space between what can be gained and what can be lost. By that standard, on both fronts, Tontine has Survivor whipped.

You've got that right TF. Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother and all other prize based reality show's would be better served having contestants front the jackpot. More risk equals more drama. Of course, most networks don't have the guts to pull the trigger on a show like this. Instead, they spend money making celebrities out of people with no talent. Such is the sorry state of entertainment these days.

The show is just wrong. I hope that is Crashes and burns like no other reality show has before.
i agree new order. this just sounds like let's just throw 15 clowns in a ring together and have 'em beat each other up for 100 days for their own money..oh, and we'll bring the cameras and have boston rob yap his mouth throughout the circus to make sure it's completely rediculous!
Pop and New Order...you're right, it could be a circus...BUT it could also be the most dramatic and riveting television of all time. These contestants have something to lose which sets this apart from any other reality show....and when you have something to lose, well, anything can happen.
